WWE SummerSlam Saturday 2026 – Introduction
WWE SummerSlam Saturday is here! A huge stadium-sized card came to the Twin Cities, as WWE hosted its largest summer gathering in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on August 1, 2026. This first night of WWE SummerSlam took place at the cavernous U.S. Bank Stadium, providing WWE with another monumental platform for its 2026 matches, rivalries, titles, and shocks.
WWE announced the first night of SummerSlam 2026 would be Saturday, August 1, and the second night was scheduled for Sunday, August 2. Furthermore, this was the first time ever that the very popular SummerSlam took place in a stadium setting in Minneapolis.
There were quite a few intriguing matches on Saturday’s card which may have a significant impact on the future of WWE storylines. Therefore, the focus was on the Undisputed WWE Championship match between CM Punk and Cody Rhodes. Saturday’s card also featured a Hell in a Cell match with Brock Lesnar taking on Oba Femi, Liv Morgan battling IYO SKY for the Women’s World Championship, and several other important matches.
For those dreaming of WWE SummerSlam Saturday 2026 futures, the one thing on everyone’s mind was whether night one would live up to WWE’s tradition of having the highest levels of electricity at their biggest yearly PPVs. Consequently, with the likes of CM Punk, Brock Lesnar, Oba Femi, IYO SKY, and others taking the stage, it was a pretty loaded cast.

WWE SummerSlam Saturday took place on August 1, 2026, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. According to WWE, the stadium event began at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT.
The event was held over two nights: Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2.
One other thing that made the Minneapolis market important was that WWE officially announced that the 2026 SummerSlam would be the first stadium event in Minneapolis. Furthermore, the market previously hosted a WWE Premium Live Event, TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs, in 2019.
The fans attending the event also had the opportunity to participate in numerous fan activities taking place throughout the Minneapolis area over the SummerSlam weekend. Consequently, the official SummerSlam Superstore was located at the Minneapolis Convention Center, providing fans with an opportunity to purchase SummerSlam merchandise.
What Is On The SummerSlam Saturday Card?
Saturday had six matches announced, offering a variety of WWE in-ring contests. Therefore, we had two titles defended, one Hell in a Cell match, a singles contest, and two tag team matches with multiple participants.
Announced Lineup:
-
CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes – Undisputed WWE Championship
-
Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar – Hell in a Cell Match
-
Liv Morgan vs. IYO SKY – Women’s World Championship
-
Gunther vs. Nick Aldis
-
LA Knight, Solo Sikoa, and Royce Keys vs. Jacob Fatu and The Usos
-
The Bella Twins and Paige vs. Fatal Influence (Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley, Lainey Reid)
The card itself had a completely different feel for the opening night than a typical single-theme pay-per-view. Furthermore, the title matches featured the title bouts, while the Hell in a Cell match was the most dangerous stipulation of the night. There were also many stories tying together the multi-man contests.
CM Punk Faces Cody Rhodes For WWE Gold
The battle for the Undisputed WWE Championship – CM Punk versus Cody Rhodes – was undoubtedly the biggest traditional wrestling match of the Saturday night lineup.
Two very different personalities and wrestling styles joined the championship race. Therefore, Punk anchored his career in WWE on technical wrestling, experience, mind games, and cool under pressure in top-tier main events. Meanwhile, Rhodes firmly established himself as a major WWE star by chasing titles and connecting emotionally with fans.
That is why their SummerSlam encounter was so significant. Consequently, if one of these two wrestlers won a championship match, it could have a major impact on the course of the title picture.
There had also been plenty of hype leading up to the contest. On the July 31 edition of SmackDown, Punk and Rhodes came to blows in the ring for one last confrontation ahead of SummerSlam.
The biggest question heading into the match itself was straightforward: would Cody Rhodes win the title from CM Punk, or would Punk hold on to it on one of WWE’s biggest events?

Oba Femi Meets Brock Lesnar Inside Hell
Oba Femi and Brock Lesnar participated in a Hell in a Cell match, which was the most physical contest of the night.
Hell in a Cell eliminates most of the restrictions observed in a typical WWE singles contest. Consequently, the steel enclosure opened up the match, giving the combatants a whole host of ways to endanger themselves. For Femi, the chance to take on Lesnar under this situation presented a great platform to make his mark against one of WWE’s best-known powerhouse wrestlers.
Lesnar’s credentials made the fight even more attractive. Lesnar has been in many high-profile feuds during the bulk of his WWE career, and his offense can be deadly right from the opening bell.
Femi, however, would be the new blood that would benefit the most from a strong match with Lesnar, win, lose, or draw.
WWE had already promoted the pay-per-view match, having built up the rivalry on the July 27 Raw, where Femi and Lesnar announced war in the build-up for the Hell in a Cell match.
Liv Morgan Defends Against IYO SKY
Liv Morgan also had the Women’s World Championship at stake in her match against IYO SKY.
Morgan brought her championship to a match with SKY’s athletic, high-flying style. Therefore, this should have been one of the more exciting matches on the card.
She faced a difficult task here. If she lost focus, SKY would take every opportunity to turn the screw and would come faster than she expected. Furthermore, with her speed, her excellent anticipation, and the fact SKY now had reason to take risks, she could create openings herself.
The title match also played a vital role for the women’s division because of the impact that winning a major title at SummerSlam can have on the division.
Gunther Takes On Nick Aldis
A further huge contenders match saw Gunther battle it out against Nick Aldis.
Gunther has made a name for himself in WWE, having one of the most naturally intimidating looks in the world. Furthermore, his hard-hitting and strategic wrestling style makes him both physically dominant and difficult to pin down. Meanwhile, Aldis is a different sort of big-time build, not physically, before truly making his mark within WWE.
The match stood out as providing Aldis with a huge SummerSlam spotlight. Consequently, WWE’s current SummerSlam coverage also highlighted the importance of the match as Aldis neared the hugely important contest.
Another important factor in this contest was whether Aldis could get the pace out of Gunther. Therefore, when Gunther dictates the pace and the opponent is worn by the heavy, he fights at his best. That would be relentless for the likes of Aldis.
Bloodline Tensions Continue In Six-Man Action
LA Knight, Solo Sikoa, and Royce Keys joined forces in a six-man tag team match to take on Jacob Fatu and The Usos.
The origin of the match itself lent even more to this match being about The Bloodline. Consequently, because of the history of the group, they were scrutinized even more than other matches. The family ties, friends, betrayals, and personal rivalries have all been a part of WWE storylines for a long time, and this match continued that.
Having LA Knight and Royce Keys added to this contest gave it another dimension. Furthermore, with Solo Sikoa involved, the never-ending stories of the Bloodline only added more tension.
Recent WWE programming has kept this feud alive. Therefore, The Bloodline jumped LA Knight, Royce Keys, and Solo Sikoa on the July 20 episode of Raw, raising the stakes for SummerSlam.

Paige Teams With The Bella Twins
Women’s 6-Person Tag Team Match: Paige & The Bella Twins vs. Fatal Influence (Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley, Lainey Reid).
While this may have been one of the more nostalgia-heavy matches on the Saturday card, it was also a match with some storyline significance in the moment. Furthermore, having Paige paired with Nikki Bella and Brie Bella was certainly an interesting look at the state of WWE. The other side with Fatal Influence gave fans a look at the talent coming up through NXT.
This match provided the younger stars of Fatal Influence the opportunity to stand out against several higher names. However, Paige and the Bella Twins’ ring mind and presence could prove to be a significant advantage if this match got down and dirty.
What Makes SummerSlam Saturday Worth Watching?
The one ultimate positive about Saturday’s card was the diversity. Therefore, you didn’t have a series of six contests that revolved around one type of wrestling. Rather, there was a momentum that took us from a title fight to the brutality of Hell in a Cell, to tag-team matches, and down to major singles matches.
CM Punk and Cody Rhodes served as the showcase match for the title. Oba Femi and Brock Lesnar brought the most destructive match of the night. Furthermore, Liv Morgan and IYO SKY defended the women’s title, while Gunther and Nick Aldis had a legitimate singles match.
Storyline-wise, the Bloodline six-man was a nice addition, while Paige, the Bella Twins, and Fatal Influence made the match more than just a rivalry between the three.
For those fans who were pondering which matches should get the most focus, the two clear headliners for the marquee spots were the title matches. Consequently, the defense of the title with Morgan and SKY also had the potential to be one of the night’s most significant matches.
With WWE going to two nights in a colossal stadium for SummerSlam, Saturday was set up to be much more than another event. Therefore, with the Minneapolis crowd, the title matches, the Hell in a Cell stipulation, and a great mix of established stars and up-and-comers, there was more than enough reason to watch night one from bell to bell.
WWE SummerSlam Saturday 2026 Results and Highlights
The WWE SummerSlam Saturday event was a packed night of action from the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Six matches were contested on the first night of the two-night WWE SummerSlam event. Consequently, the card was packed with championship matches, a Hell in a Cell match, crucial tag team action, and twists and turns that could make big changes in the WWE in the weeks to come.
The biggest storylines were focused on the Undisputed WWE Championship match, with Punk defending against Rhodes. Furthermore, the other interesting development was Oba Femi picking up an upset win over the monster Brock Lesnar in Hell in the Cell.
The other matches on the night saw Liv Morgan defending the Women’s World Championship against IYO SKY, Gunther vs. Nick Aldis, the six-man tag match with the Bloodline, and the six-woman tag match with Paige and The Bella Twins.
Who Won At WWE SummerSlam Saturday?
The winners from the August 1 SummerSlam card were:
| Match | Winner |
|---|---|
| Liv Morgan vs. IYO SKY | Liv Morgan |
| LA Knight, Solo Sikoa, Royce Keys vs. Jacob Fatu, The Usos | LA Knight, Solo Sikoa, Royce Keys |
| Gunther vs. Nick Aldis | Gunther |
| The Bella Twins & Paige vs. Fatal Influence | Fatal Influence |
| CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes | CM Punk (Retains Undisputed WWE Championship) |
| Oba Femi vs. Brock Lesnar | Oba Femi |
The opening night provided a mixture of championship retention, incredible upsets, and storyline twists.
CM Punk Retains The Undisputed WWE Title
CM Punk versus Cody Rhodes was the main event title match of SummerSlam Saturday, and it finished with Punk remaining the Undisputed WWE Champion.
Rhodes was set for a big win. However, the final few seconds of the match turned the tables on him. Randy Orton ran in for a much-needed reunion, hitting Rhodes with an RKO and giving Punk enough breathing room to retain.
Orton’s return was one of the biggest surprises of the night because it instantly put him in the run for a title shot. Instead of just ending a title match, it created another big story with Punk, Rhodes, and Orton.
For Punk, the victory keeps that championship reign going. For Rhodes, the loss is left worse than it was because he did not lose a match to a champion on a clean finish. Furthermore, Orton’s appearance allows Rhodes a reason to avenge the loss, and it may also be the precursor to another title angle.
The outcome provides WWE with various avenues that can be taken following SummerSlam. Punk can carry on as champion, Rhodes can go after Orton, or the three of them can simply be linked together via the title.

Oba Femi Defeats Brock Lesnar In Hell
Oba Femi achieved one of the biggest wins of his WWE career by defeating Brock Lesnar inside Hell in a Cell.
The match presented Femi with a great challenge, because Lesnar’s reputation has been built as one of today’s most awesome forces of strength, motion, and pure physicality. Consequently, a win over him in the steel structure makes the designation well deserved.
To Femi, this is one of those results that can elevate a new prospect in the eyes of the WWE viewers. Furthermore, defeating veterans such as Lesnar provides an aura that isn’t so simply created through trivial wins.
The Hell in a Cell setting also elevated the match to one of the most hard-fought of the night. Therefore, the cage around the ring provided another weapon for both men to use as a part of the match.
Femi overcame the obstacle in the end and got the win – a huge statement victory at arguably WWE’s biggest weekend of the year.
Liv Morgan Keeps The Women’s World Title
Liv Morgan retains the Women’s World Championship against IYO SKY.
The match provided SKY the chance to take home the championship. However, Morgan pulled through the test and headed out of Minneapolis as the champion.
Due to her athletic ability, SKY created a lot of dangerous moments during the contest. Her speed and offense off the top kept Morgan on her toes. Meanwhile, Morgan used her in-ring experience and knowledge of timing to stay ahead when it was no longer a predictable match.
The victory puts Morgan into the top tier of the women’s division and gives SKY a valid claim to a rematch for the title in the future.
This outcome is also beneficial for WWE in terms of continuing the story arc of the Women’s World Title. Consequently, the deal with SKY allows the promotion to still follow a direction with the title without having to follow something else first.
Gunther Scores A Win Over Nick Aldis
Gunther also knocked off Nick Aldis in another singles bout from Saturday’s card.
The match was a nice early test for the more aggressive approach Gunther has been employing. Certainly, this is very different from the style he employed earlier in his career, favoring the more old-school approach of controlled offense, heavy striking, and consistent pressure. Once he gets going, it is tough to get him off his game.
Aldis looked like he might have broken the pattern, but Gunther came out on top.
This result only cements Gunther’s position as one of the most dangerous singles wrestlers in WWE. For Aldis, the match was a chance for him to gain experience on the big SummerSlam stage and could open the door to further such opportunities in the future.
Bloodline Match Ends With A Big Victory
LA Knight, Solo Sikoa, and Royce Keys were victorious over Jacob Fatu and The Usos in six-man tag team action.
This whole match was very much a continuation of the Bloodline story. Consequently, it has perhaps been the most complex long-term story WWE has done, and with Jacob Fatu and The Usos involved, it continued to feature family rivalry.
The presence of LA Knight brought even more star power to the match. Furthermore, knowing the history between Solo Sikoa and the Bloodline made every moment resonate that much more.
The winning team of Knight, Sikoa, and Keys gained much momentum heading into the aftermath of SummerSlam. Therefore, with a reason to come back and the fact that the team has a reason in doing so, the rivalry doesn’t have to stop at the stadium event.
As Bloodline-based stories tend to have a lot of backstabbing, that ending may be the least significant thing about it. Consequently, WWE has a chance to refresh SummerSlam by establishing new combinations, disloyalty, or obtaining fresh singles rivalries.
Fatal Influence Defeats Paige And The Bellas
Fatal Influence got the win against Paige & The Bella Twins in six-woman tag team action.
Jacy Jayne, Fallon Henley, and Lainey Reid defeated three very recognizable WWE stars. Therefore, they fought a good mix of current talents and legends in this match, built around memories and continuing the storylines of their characters.
The biggest moment came after the match when Nikki Bella and Brie Bella betrayed Paige.
The betrayal immediately altered the scope of the contest. Consequently, closing the show with a single victory for Fatal Influence no longer mattered. Instead, the after-match storyline established a new narrative involving Paige and the Bella Twins.
The win is a momentum boost for the Fatal Influence stable. For Paige, her betrayal opens up a private battle for her that WWE can expand upon after SummerSlam.

The venue was one of the most iconic stadiums in the city for WWE on the first night of SummerSlam weekend. Furthermore, WWE officially announced the host city as Minneapolis for the 2026 edition, with the company running SummerSlam as a two-night stadium event.
The Minneapolis site was especially significant, as it hosted one of WWE’s largest yearly shows for the first time at the stadium.
In addition, this resulted in the local fans getting exposure to other SummerSlam activities taking place during the same weekend, such as WWE-related fan activities and merchandise.
What Date And Time Was SummerSlam Saturday?

The pay-per-view was scheduled to start at 6 p.m. EST / 5 p.m. CST in Minneapolis. The West Coast was advertised to start at 3 p.m. PST.

-
The Bella Twins stabbing Paige in the back was another great turn of events in the storyline. Their treachery turned a six-woman tag match into a possible much larger rivalry.
-
CM Punk holding onto the Undisputed WWE Championship meant the top men’s title stayed with the champion, but Cody Rhodes still had a score to settle.

How SummerSlam Saturday ends might be equally consequential as how the matches go.
Punk’s title retention maintains the status quo with the Undisputed WWE Championship. Furthermore, having Orton back is another big name to have in the mix with Rhodes.

Liv Morgan also departs Minneapolis with her title still in her possession. Meanwhile, IYO SKY retains her status as a quality challenger with a spirited effort on the main stage against the champion.
There is an additional outcome that the Bloodline storyline can work toward, with the Paige-Bella Twins betrayal creating a unique individual rival for the women’s division.
